Drag Chain Cable for Continuous Flexing Duty

Cable for linear reciprocating motion inside a cable carrier. Flex life is set by the jacket compound, not by the conductor: 3,000,000+ cycles with nitrile, 5,000,000+ with polyurethane.

Drag chain cable — specification

Built for the duty cycle that breaks ordinary flexible cable: constant back-and-forth travel inside a carrier, at speed, for millions of cycles. Conductor stranding, lay length and jacket compound are selected together — a soft jacket over a coarse strand will fail at the jacket long before the copper does. Both NBR and PUR jackets are available on the same conductor construction, so the jacket is a duty-cycle decision rather than a separate product.

Common questions

Drag chain cable buying questions.

How many flex cycles does drag chain cable last?

3,000,000+ cycles with a nitrile (NBR) jacket and 5,000,000+ cycles with a polyurethane (PUR) jacket, on the same conductor construction. Flex life is governed by the jacket compound.

Should I choose NBR or PUR jacket?

NBR for general drag chain duty and oil contact, operating from -15 to +70 °C. PUR where the cycle count is high, abrasion is severe, or the installation runs cold — it reaches 5,000,000+ cycles and stays flexible from -40 to +80 °C.

What bend radius do you need for a quote?

Send the carrier radius and the travel length. Bend radius is specified per construction rather than published as a fixed figure, because strand count and jacket thickness both move it. With the carrier radius and travel we confirm the construction before production.

Can you supply a shielded version?

Yes. An optional tinned copper braid is available on the same construction for drives and servo applications where EMI matters.

Send the duty cycle, environment and voltage. We return a construction proposal.
